Katie began her musical journey on the violin in her public school orchestra, and eventually switched to the cello. In high school Katie studied with Robin Treybig, a supportive mentor who inspired her to delve deeper into the art of playing the cello. Her passion for music grew, leading her to transfer to Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School to study with Paige Riggs. During her high school years Katie had the privilege of performing with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic, Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra (including a performance at Carnegie Hall) and with the Pittsburgh Symphony in their annual student side by side concert.

These educational experiences highlighted the power of music to create community, inspiring Katie to pursue a career in music. During her time at BW, Katie studied with renowned soloist Regina Mushabac. Katie began Suzuki Teacher Training in 2017 and was excited to discover improvements in her own playing in addition to her teaching. Since then, Katie is always eager to learn more strategies and new perspectives so she continues to take Suzuki training with teacher trainers from across the country.
Her students often play in the honors orchestras at their schools and have had successful auditions into NOYO and CYO. In spring 2024, one of her students won the Concerto Competition for NOYO Symphonetta Strings. Katie encourages students to play what inspires them and includes movie music and/or pop music as supplemental repertoire if students are interested. Most importantly Katie focuses on meeting students where they are each week and creating step by step achievable goals to guide and inspire them.
Fun Facts: In addition to classical studies she recorded and performed with Pittsburgh indie rock band String Machine, including regional and national touring. When not teaching cello lessons or playing weddings, Katie spends her time hiking the many Cleveland Metroparks. Katie is also a Tree Steward with Old Brooklyn Community Development Corporation and serves on the board of directors for Les Délices.
